Coconut Fatty Acid Distillate (CFAD)
WHAT IS COCONUT FATTY ACID DISTILLATE (CFAD)
Coconut Fatty Acid Distillate (CFAD) is a by-product of the physical refining of coconut oil. Coconut Fatty Acid Distillate (CFAD) cannot be consumed directly like pure vegetable oil. Because this vegetable oil is in the form of raw materials. The processed raw materials will later be mixed with other ingredients to become a finished product that can be used for manufacturing such as soap and cosmetics.
Benefits of Coconut Fatty Acid Distillate (CFAD)
Some of the benefits of Coconut Fatty Acid Distillate (CFAD) are as follows:
- Soap
- Detergent / Laundry soap
- Cosmetics
- Lotions
- Methyl ester
- Biodiesel
- Fatty alcohol
- Anti-caking agent
- It can also be used as a mixture for animal feed And Many Maore..
Reasons for Using Coconut Fatty Acid Distillate (CFAD)
The main reason why Fatty Acid is used more than petrochemicals to produce these products, namely: Fatty Acid is produced from renewable sources while the raw materials from petrochemicals are taken from non-renewable sources, this will certainly be more environmentally friendly and safer.
Making Coconut Fatty Acid Distillate (CFAD)
Fatty Acid is made using a distillation process. The separation is based on the boiling points of each carbon chain. The short carbon chain will separate earlier than the long carbon chain. Distillation can remove unwanted colors and odors.
The composition of the product depends on the raw materials used. Like coconut oil, it contains a lot of C8 (Caprylic Acid) and C10 (Capric Acid). Hydrocarbons with short chains when reacted with mono and polyhydric alcohol then form esters. This ester is used as a synthetic lubricating oil. For fatty acids that contain a lot of myristic acid and palmitic acid, when reacted with isopropyl alcohol, then it forms an ester. These esters are used as ingredients in cosmetics and in body care products.
For fatty acids that contain lots of Lauric acid, myristic acid and palmitic acid reacted with alcohol will be used as a formulation. The initial process is the separation of impurities using a degasser, then to obtain palmitic acid, namely through the first fractionation process which is expected the distillate product has a purity of 98%, then obtains oleic acid in the second fractionation process with distillate which is expected to have a purity of 85% and the final product is stearic acid which is obtained by the principle of separation using a pitcher.
